Enhancing its ability to be a place where every child can play, Savannah’s Playground at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach has officially reopened after months of improvements totaling more than $2 million.
In early March, the City of Myrtle Beach welcomed families back to one of the most beloved and inclusive play spaces in the state, highlighting the city's ongoing commitment to ensuring children of all abilities have a place to play, explore and connect.
The improvements focused on making the park safer, more comfortable and more engaging for families.
Enhancements to Savannah's Playground include:
- New synthetic safety turf throughout the playground
- Additional shade structures to help keep play areas cooler
- Updated playground equipment and refreshed musical features
- A new communication board designed to help nonverbal children interact with others
- An inclusive “We-Go” wheelchair swing and other accessible play elements
- Fitness equipment for adults, allowing parents to stay active while children play
These improvements modernize the space while preserving what makes Savannah’s Playground special, an environment designed so every child can participate.
Designed with ADA-compliant play structures and sensory features, the playground has long stood out as one of the largest disability-accessible playgrounds in South Carolina.
For families with children who have disabilities, who face limited playground access, the playground breaks barriers to accommodate wheelchairs, different mobility needs and communication barriers that can prevent children from fully participating.
For locals, Savannah’s Playground is a community gathering space where families can spend time outdoors together. For visitors, it’s another reason Myrtle Beach continues to stand out as an inclusive, family-friendly destination.
