Annual Oyster Roast Supports Young Talent Giving Back To Their Community

The Grand Strand’s favorite oyster roast is back, allowing you to give back to some important organizations.

The 17th Annual Shuckin’ on the Strand Oyster Roast, hosted by Grand Strand Young Professionals (GSYP), returns Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Hot Fish Club in Murrells Inlet. Open to the public, the event brings together residents, young professionals and community leaders for an afternoon of food, live entertainment and community impact.

Enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters, chicken bog, fixin’s, cold beer and live music. But beyond that, the event is a reminder of why investing in local talent, and the organizations that support it, matters to the long-term strength of the Grand Strand.

All proceeds from Shuckin’ on the Strand benefit Substitutes for Santa, GSYP’s annual December initiative that provides 150 local children with a meaningful Christmas experience. This is direct, hands-on support organized and delivered by young professionals who live and work in this community.

That’s the broader role GSYP plays year-round. Communities that retain talent don’t do it by accident. They do it by creating pathways for people to connect, lead and put down roots. GSYP develops future civic and business leaders, connects young professionals to causes larger than their job titles, and builds relationships that keep talent local instead of exporting it elsewhere.

Events like Shuckin’ on the Strand aren’t just social gatherings. They are entry points, places where early-career professionals engage with the community, understand local needs, and see firsthand that the Grand Strand values their involvement. If the region wants a stronger workforce and deeper leadership pipeline, organizations like GSYP are part of the infrastructure that makes that possible.

Tickets are available in advance and purchasing early is strongly recommended, as space is limited. Adult oyster tickets are $50 and include all-you-can-eat oysters, one plate of chicken bog and fixin’s, and two beers. Adults who do not eat oysters may purchase a $20 ticket, which includes one plate of chicken bog and fixin’s and two beers. Child tickets for ages 10 and under who do not eat oysters are $10. A commemorative oyster shucker is available for $10 as an optional add-on during ticket purchase.
