Myrtle Beach Celebrates Working Visitors During National Exchange Day

Under the motto “Eat, Play, Give,” cities across the country celebrated Exchange Day on Aug. 7, 2023, to recognize international students who come to the U.S. on a temporary basis to work, travel, learn and experience American culture.

Myrtle Beach celebrated the occasion at Myrtle Waves Water Park to reward international exchange visitors working in the Grand Strand area for the summer under the U.S. State Department's J-1 Visa Program.

These exchange visitors come from across the world and are mainly students or recent graduates, teachers or researchers seeking an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in America. They can work in seasonal or temporary jobs that allow them to interact with Americans and travel the country.

To receive admission to the water park, each participant made a $2 donation to Help 4 Kids’ Backpack Buddies, a program that provides food to Horry County school children.

In total, 188 exchange visitors enjoyed the water park for the day. Food, freebies, and drawings for prizes to area attractions further rewarded the students.

Area businesses who employ the students appreciate their work and hope that they had a good experience while visiting the U.S. and Myrtle Beach.
