Grand Strand Juneteenth Celebrations To Honor Black Heritage, History & Culture

Communities and local organizations throughout the Grand Strand are honoring Black heritage, history and culture this June with a series of special celebrations commemorating the national Juneteenth holiday.

Along with recognizing the significance of freedom, events will honor the rich cultural contributions of Black Americans through music, storytelling, food and art. This includes celebrations across the Myrtle Beach area that honor the Gullah Geechee people and traditions, including language, cuisine and music.

Special Juneteenth 2025 celebrations in Horry and Georgetown counties include:

  • City of Myrtle Beach’s Annual Juneteenth Celebration │Saturday, June 14, from 2 - 8 p.m. at Charlie’s Place on Carver Street: Bring a lawn chair to the free event to enjoy Live in the Flesh, The 100 Grand Band, Namu Drum Company, Socastee and Conway High School Drum Lines, and the Myrtle Beach Middle School dance team. Experience food and craft vendors along with a kid’s fun zone. Rain location: Mary C. Canty Recreation Center, 971 Canal Street.
  • Atlantic Beach’ 2025 Juneteenth Freedom Festival │ Saturday, June 21: The day kicks off with a motorcycle and car freedom ride from Shallotte, N.C., to Atlantic Beach. Then, from 1 - 7 p.m., the festivities continue in Atlantic Beach with Gullah Geechee cultural showcases, a food bazaar, family activities, live music and a Boots on the Ground line dance flash mob.
  • 5th Annual Juneteenth Soul Food Festival – Cookout Edition │ Thursday, June 19 from 4 - 8 p.m. at Freewoods Farm in Burgess, S.C.: Enjoy a day at this 40-acre working farm designed to show what life was like for Black farmers between 1865 and the early 20th The ticketed event offers a traditional Southern cookout, cultural celebrations such as African attire, live storytelling and family games.
  • Brookgreen Gardens’ Juneteenth Program featuring Gullah Storytelling │Wednesday, June 18 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. at Brookgreen Garden’s Ron Daise Auditorium: Acclaimed Gullah storyteller Frank Murry will share rich oral traditions passed down through generations, offering insights into the lives, wisdom and culture of the Gullah Geechee people.
  • Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art’s Juneteenth Celebration │Wednesday, June 18 from 5 -7 p.m. at The Quad on Petigru Drive in Pawleys Island: Blues legend Mac Arnold and his band will perform while emcee and historian Lee Brockington will share the influence of “The Blues” on culture and music. Food trucks, beer and wine will be available. Admission is free, and lawn chairs are encouraged.
  • Georgetown County Library’s Inaugural Juneteenth Festival │ Events held throughout June at the Georgetown (S.C.) Main Library on Cleland Street. Experience a variety of free activities from art exhibits and craft lessons such as Gullah doll making. The Black Business Expo is Saturday, June 14 from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Gullah culture advocate Ron Daise will showcase Gullah storytelling on Tuesday, June 17 at 3 p.m.

For more information, VisitMyrtleBeach.com highlights various Juneteenth celebrations across the Grand Strand. The Myrtle Beach Visitors Center at 1200 N. Oak Street in Myrtle Beach will be closed on Thursday, June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
