5 Time Champ Brooks Koepka Feeds Off Myrtle Beach Crowd During Electric Third Round

Brooks Koepka’s Saturday at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic felt less like a comeback story and more like a reminder of who he still is.

The five-time major champion fired a third-round 64 at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, highlighted by a blistering 29 on the back nine, and for the first time in a long time, Koepka looked genuinely energized. And not just by his game, but by the Coastal Carolina atmosphere surrounding him.

After his Saturday round, he popped in the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic media center to speak about his energy.

“That’s the most excited I’ve been playing golf in a long, long time,” Koepka said after his round. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had fun playing golf.”

And Myrtle Beach fans noticed.

As Koepka started making his move Saturday afternoon, the crowds began to swell around his group. The energy grew louder with every birdie, every darted iron shot, every fist pump. By the back nine, the atmosphere around Koepka and playing partner Rickie Fowler had transformed into one of the biggest scenes on the course.

“Right when I started to make my run, it just felt like our whole group, the gallery, got twice the size,” Koepka said. “I love that. They’ve been fantastic. They’ve been super supportive all week.”

That connection between player and fans has become one of the defining stories of this year’s ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic.

Koepka admitted the past year has been frustrating. He has battled inconsistency with the putter despite believing his ball-striking has remained elite. Saturday finally felt like everything beginning to click together.

“I thought I drove it beautifully,” Koepka said. “Ball-struck it with the irons really, really well.”

The Dunes Club setup appears to suit his eye perfectly. Koepka said the course rewards the type of controlled fade he relies on off the tee, allowing him to stay aggressive while still feeling comfortable with his strategy.

“I just think the course kind of suits my eye a little bit,” he explained. “I think that’s been the big thing.”

But beyond the golf itself, Koepka repeatedly pointed to something more personal: happiness.

He spoke candidly about rediscovering his love for the game and how that shift off the course is translating into confidence on it.

“If they’re happy off the golf course, they’re going to play well on the golf course,” Koepka said. “I’ve refound my happiness, my love for the game. All the pieces are connected.”

That honesty seemed to resonate with fans throughout the day.

Myrtle Beach crowds have always embraced star power, but Saturday felt different. Fans weren’t simply watching Koepka because of his resume, they were pulling for him. They responded to the visible emotion, the excitement, and the flashes of vintage Koepka that surfaced during his electric back nine.

And Koepka fed off every bit of it.

“The crowd is growing. The energy is kind of with me,” he said. “It makes it for a fun experience.”

Whether Koepka ultimately lifts the trophy Sunday or not, his performance at the Myrtle Beach Classic has already delivered one thing clearly: he is enjoying golf again, and Myrtle Beach has embraced every moment of it.
