If your business serves alcohol for on-premise consumption, a new law applies to you.
A new South Carolina law requires new alcohol server training to be completed by March 2. Previous certifications completed on or before Jan. 18, 2026, do not qualify under the new law, and previously trained employees must undergo the new training.
Who needs training?
Anyone who sells/serves alcohol for on-premises consumption
Managers who oversee that service.
What’s the deadline?
Current employees: must complete the new training by March 2.
New hires: must complete training within 30 days of hire.
Where to complete training?
The S.C. Dept. of Revenue currently has three approved server training programs.
South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association has a step-by-step guide for obtaining the certification through ServSafe, an approved program developed by the National Restaurant Association.
If you serve alcohol, now is the time to review your team’s certifications and ensure compliance before the March 2 deadline to avoid penalties.
